05 Aug 2007 · Everything revolves around the weather....

It was 30 degrees today! O-M-G!!! London just doesn’t have weather like this!

This whole weekend has been a scorcher!!! And the week has been lovely too.

This weekend was soooo relaxing! I finally now understand what weekends are for. Not for working, not for domestic duties, but for exploring, catching up with people, relaxing…doing things that you can’t do during the week due to work. I’ve finally learnt not to feel guilty for being lazy and relaxing. I’ve come to accept that relaxing is so important to do.

On Friday, after a busy but productive day at work, I went straight to Spider’s for pizza and wine….mmmm….. Finally met Jackie – flatmate – and we all got way too tipsy on the red wine. Lisa came home and we all had laughs and giggles, till she got silly and hit her head against the wall. She blames it on Spides, but who knows ;) We were laughing at her. Mmmm had awesome pizza, chips and then to top it off, I bought some frickin yum toffee icecream AND AND sticky date pudding!! OMG it was delicious!!! So damn good…..droooool

Sat morning I got up early and headed to High St Kensington where all the good shops are. Wandered around and soaked up the heat and sunshine (was already 26 degrees by 10am). Spoke to Mum and my little cousins on the phone. Emma was so cute. I explained to her where I was and that it was sunny here and dark in Australia. And she goes “Yeah I know. When it’s sunny there, it’s dark here and when it’s sunny here….well it’s not too nice over there” HAHAHA! How funny is that! She’s only 5!

I bought a scrummy strawberry tart filled with cream and headed to
Kensington Gardens/Park to sit in the sunshine and read my book. Could you ask for anything more beautiful and relaxing than that? Everyone was out and about doing the same. Many people in bikinis laying in the sun on the grass getting a tan. People out walking dogs. Was a lovely morning. I was going to head into the Palace (the residence of Diana and Charles), but left that for another day when Dave called to catch up for lunch.

Headed down to Fulham – love Fulham with all of it’s shops – and went for a walk with Dave to a kewl pub and had my first Pimms in the UK! Yum….it’s a bitters alcohol with lemonade, a slice of orange, cucumber and lemon – very refreshing! Then we walked down to the Thames and across the bridge into Putney and decided to finally go to GBK (Gourmet Burger Kitchen)....OMG....so at home we have GPK and here they have burgers…..they are just divine! I had a satay beef one and it was one of the nicest peanut satays I’ve ever tasted….plus the burgers are so large you are completely full afterwards. We headed to Putney shops which are great, and walked into a shopping centre….woot! Reminded me of home as they don’t really have shopping centres/malls here. All the shops are on the main street (what they call high street).

In the evening, I headed out with Emma and the girls to a nightclub in Notting Hill. Was okay, considering we got 2 for 1 cocktails….but then again I’m not a clubbing person.

Today was fun! Emma and her friends invited me to go mini golfing with them, which means you play golf on a green, but the holes are half the size. I realised i’d never played golf before, so this was fun! Plus we had many laughs and cracked many jokes, when we hit hopeless shots. Much Happy Gilmore banter too. Then after we took forever to get through 9 holes (I came 2nd last! Hahaha), it was time for the pub! And where better to go in Acton but….the Redback! Another Aussie/Kiwi haunt. Pretty seedy inside, but out in the beer garden was a free Barbie going, so we couldn’t knock that one back – and great burgers at that too! There was pineapple to put on the burgers WITH damper rolls! YUMMM!

I started feeling guilty around 3pm, after such a leisurely weekend eating way too much. So i said my goodbyes and headed home to go to the gym. Well the gym was great! Fitness First which means I can use my UK membership in Australia. Did about an hours work out and realised I wasn’t as bad as I thought. Then when I went to get changed, I realised that there’s a sauna, steam room and aromatherapy room!!! How awesome is that!! So of course, I had to have a go ;) Did the aromatherapy room first, where it’s only a little steamy and hints of rosemary circulate the room. Then I headed into the steam room where I instantly built up a sweat. Afterwards I had a very cold shower, as you’ve got to close your pores, washed my hair with the shampoo provided, and went home!!! A very nourishing experience! So I’m looking forward to getting fit before Xmas comes and having a sauna every week – felt a bit like a superstar getting pampered in a way ;) lol

This week will be fun!! Tomorrow night we’re heading to see a play called Wicked – about the witches from The Wizard of Oz – then on Friday night…...it’s time for…...SILVERCHAIR!!!! ROCK ON BABY!!! I’m so excited to see the boys, as I last saw them at Homebake.

So for now…bedtime….also have to clean my messy room….argh! Hahaha  Fingers crossed Summer sticks around, but I have my doubts…Lol
